Gartmore, a UK-based fund manager, has raised $300 million in a new single strategy hedge fund managed by its star fund manager, Roger Guy. The UK fund manager has allocated all $300 million of capacity in the fund to investors. The record amount raised was even more impressive given a high performance fee of 30 per cent. Mr Guy’s Alphagen Capella hedge fund has returned 19 per cent a year on average since launch. The new fund will follow a long/short equity strategy and will typically invest in 15 to 25 large European quoted companies at a time.
