UAE's Mashreq Hires Former StanChart Exec To Lead Private Bank

A senior former figure at the private banking arm of Standard Chartered takes up a new role.

Mashreq, the banking group based in the United Arab Emirates, has appointed Rajesh Malkani as head of private banking and wealth, having previously been a top-level executive at the private bank of Standard Chartered.

The move comes after Malkani was appointed in October 2014 as regional head, private banking clients, MENAP, Africa and South Asia at Standard Chartered. He originally joined Standard Chartered in 2006. Before this, Malkani was with BNP Paribas Private Bank in Hong Kong and Singapore between 1996 and 2006. In his last role there he was head of Southeast Asia. He has also worked with UBS Private Banking in Hong Kong, Mashreq said in a statement yesterday.

Mashreq claims to be the oldest bank in the UAE with a branch network across the Emirates. It is also present in 11 countries outside the UAE, with 21 overseas branches and offices across Europe, US, Asia and Africa. The bank was created in 1967.
