Offshore law firms Ogier and WSmith (formerly Walker Smiths) have agreed to merge their businesses to create a global organisation with offices in nine financial centres around the world and 600 staff. The merged firm will be called Ogier and will have a presence in the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Ireland, Jersey, London, Montevideo and New Zealand. The merger will be effective from 1 February 2007.
