Nomura Strengthens Asia ex-Japan Operations With Key Hires
Nomura, the Tokyo-based financial services group, has strengthened its Asia ex-Japan franchise with two key hires.
Wonseok Chae is now head of corporate sales and financing, Korea, reporting to Daniel Mamadou, head of the CSFG division. Chae was previously from Goldman Sachs where he was head of corporate sales for Korea. Before that, he was head of the corporate coverage group at Deutsche Bank.
His new role will have him based in Seoul. Aside from Mamadou, he will also be reporting to Djamal Attamimi and Chris Chan, managing director, head of the financing group for Asia ex-Japan and managing director, head of corporate solutions for Asia ex-Japan, respectively.
The CSFG unit is an integrated platform that merges the corporate coverage resoruces with structured products. Since November 2011, the platform has grown to have 30 people covering corporate clients in Asia ex-Japan.
Also newly hired is Wendy Liu, who becomes the managing director and head of China equity research, based in Hong Kong. Liu joins from RBS, where she was a managing director, head of China research and the China strategist. She had also served as senior director and co-head of Asia-Pacific Telecom Research at Merrill Lynch.
At Nomura, Liu will be responsible for managing the China equity research product and aligning research views on the China market. She will report jointly to Stewart Callaghan, head of equity research for Asia ex-Japan and Zhizhong Yang, chairman and chief executive for the China region. Nomura currently has over 20 analysts covering 220 stocks across 14 sectors in China.
