Martin Currie Appoints Asia Business Director

Mike Gibb is relocating from the Edinburgh headquarters of Martin Currie to become director of sales and client services for Asia, based in Singapore.
In Singapore, Gibb will work closely with Kimon Kouryialas, director and head of pan-Asia sales and client services, according to a statement.
Gibb, a senior business development director, joined the UK-based equity manager in 2005 and has 22 years of industry experience overall. For the past four years he has worked on developing the firm’s hedge fund business in Asia.
The firm launched in Asia with an office in Shanghai in 1997, subsequently opening offices in Australia and Singapore, in 2008 and 2009 respectively. “Given our focus on Asian and emerging market equities, and the strong savings culture and growing affluence in the region driving a growing client base, Asia is increasingly a core market for Martin Currie,” the firm said.
In other related developments, in May the firm unveiled a fund seeking to capture the growth potential in Asia-Pacific with lower volatility than the broader market. The Asia Long Term Unconstrained strategy will invest in 20 to 30 sustainable businesses in Asia with a long-term outlook to minimise transaction costs.
The firm also boosted its research team earlier this week, with the appointment of Gavin MacGregor as senior research analyst for healthcare.
