Inflation Hits UK Wealthy – Survey

The price of luxury goods and services in London has outstripped the rate of inflation to rise by about 6 per cent over the last 12 months, according to a survey by UK-based multi-family office Stonehage. The survey tracks the prices of 50 goods and services on a “per use” basis, ranging from private education to a day’s grouse shooting. According to the survey, the price of an executive box at Chelsea Football Club has soared 25 per cent to £117,500 ($135,000), while the cost per term for two pupils at Westminster School rose to more than £17,300 in 2007, up 7 per cent on last year. The rate of inflation over the same period was 2.3 per cent. High net worth individuals have also been hit by an 18 per cent rise in the price of 1 kilo of Beluga Caviar and an 8.7 per cent increase in keeping polo ponies. However, the price of a week’s yacht hire has fallen 5.2 per cent.
