Future Fund Managing Director, President Leaves The Agency

Mark Burgess, the managing director and president of the Australian Government Future Fund, is leaving the agency to return to the private sector.

The Future Fund is an independently managed investment fund where the Government deposits its budget surplus. The objective is to strengthen the Government's long-term financial position by making provision for unfunded superannuation liabilities.

Burgess has been with the agency since 2011. During his term, the fund has expanded from A$75 million to more than A$89 billion, with total assets going over A$100 billion ($91 billion).

The fund has yet to name his replacement and he will remain until this is so, to facilitate a smooth transition.
