Barclays Names Regional Head Of North Asia

Barclays, the UK-headquartered bank, has announced a new wealth management head for North Asia.

Vivian Chan assumes the position of regional head of North Asia for the wealth and investment management division effective 5 August 2013, WealthBriefingAsia can confirm. In this role, she reports to Didier von Daeniken, head of wealth management for Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa.

"North Asia is a key region and we have seen significant growth in the corporate and investment banking, as well as wealth management space. Our wealth management business has been driven by the rapid rate of wealth creation and our private investment banking capabilities," said Robert Morrice, chairman and chief executive of Barclays Asia-Pacific.

Chan joins Barclays from Credit Suisse, where she was managing director and market leader for Greater China. She was also instrumental in building the firm's ultra high net worth client portfolio in the region.

The hire complements the bank's ongoing expansion drive in the region, most recently marked by the appointment of Carol Chen as market head for Greater China and John Chang as country head for Korea. Barclays' Greater China efforts have grown since opening its second Asian booking centre in Hong Kong in 2010 and a Greater China desk based in Singapore in 2011.
