Appleby Boosts Dispute Resolution Team In Mauritius

The offshore law firm has added to its team in the island nation.
Law firm Appleby has
boosted the size of its dispute resolution service in Mauritius
this year, adding a senior associate and senior clerk, and
promoting another member of the group to the position of
counsel.
The Mauritius dispute resolution team has grown to seven at the
beginning of the year with the arrival of senior associate
Dushyant Ramdhur and senior clerk Goolam Calloo. Additionally,
Sharmilla Bhima has been promoted to counsel.
The team is part of a department acting on a range of cases and
legal issues including commercial litigation, fund disputes,
trust litigation, insolvencies and restructurings, regulatory
matters, professional negligence and insurance disputes.
Ramdhur practices in the area of corporate and commercial law,
specialising in commercial litigation and advising on matters
including insurance, industrial disputes and recovery procedures.
His experience includes advising leading Mauritius-listed and
private companies.
Calloo has nearly four decades of experience in the legal
profession. He has extensive experience in extra-judicial matters
including the drafting of all types of notices, such as the
preparation of affidavits of prescription, affidavits of
notoriety, applications for legal and judicial mortgage, searches
at the office of the Conservator of Mortgages and the Registrar
of Companies, and applications for trademarks.
Bhima has been with the firm since 2007. She is active on matters
relating to international arbitration and formed part of the team
that was responsible for opening the London Court of
International Arbitration chapter in Mauritius.
