Vestra Launches SEC-Regulated US Wealth Business

Vestra Wealth, the UK-based firm, is launching a US business dedicated to addressing the complex regulatory and tax issues faced by transatlantic investors. Vestra US Wealth Management is regulated by both the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority and the US Securities and Exchange Commission. It is led by directors Paul Nixon and Neil Williams, and also has a specialist team which will create portfolios for clients that take into account income and growth requirements, as well as tax and investment constraints.

Scott Duncan at Sarasin has been promoted to vice chair client advisory, from his previous role of managing director at the bank, this publication can confirm. Royal Bank of Canada Wealth Management has continued its hiring spree with four further appointments in Asia, this publication can exclusively reveal. Enoch Tan has been hired as managing director, reporting to Andrew Turczyniak, managing director and head of RBC Wealth Management, Asia.  “Tan is heading up a regional effort to provide corporate finance advisory services and specialised strategic solutions to the corporate concerns of high net worth clients in Asia,” a spokesperson for the bank told this publication in an emailed stat.

RBC Wealth Management has added Angelina Yap as a London-based director within its UK private client team to serve clients from east and southeast Asia. Ms Yap will develop relationships with UK-resident, non-domiciled high and ultra high net worth clients from countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia and Greater China. Ms Yap joins RBC from EFG Private Bank, where she was tasked with building a book of HNW Chinese resident and non-resident clients.

Editor’s note: As readers can imagine, this publication was bombarded with reactions from the industry over yesterday’s annual budget statement from UK Chancellor of the Exchequer (aka finance minister), George Osborne. Among the notable points made by groups such as the Investment Management Association, for example, was a warm response to the changes to stamp duty on shares traded via the Alternative Investment Market; there was a more bemused reaction to the continued drive against “aggressive” tax avoiders and evaders, given that such measures have been in place for some time.
