Newton, the London-based asset manager which is part of BNY Mellon, has appointed Suzanne Hutchins to the newly-created role of real return portfolio manager and investment specialist.
In her new role, Hutchins will provide investment management and product specialist support to the firm’s real return strategies team and will serve as the primary point of contact for clients, both internally and externally. She reports to Iain Stewart, Newton’s director of investment.

Mark Atherton left the Birmingham branch of Rathbone Brothers, the UK based private wealth and investment management firm.
John Lamb Partnership, the London-based IFA, named Campbell Edgar as head of private clients, a role in which he will oversee an eight-strong team of financial planners. He joins the firm from Andersen Charnley, where up until April of this year he served as consultant director within its City division.

A new report on the fast-growing Traded Life Policies sector urges investors still smarting from losses in the securitised mortgage market not to repeat old errors by piling into a new area without understanding potential risks.
TLPs are US-issued whole of life policies sold before their maturity date to allow the original policy owners to enjoy some of the benefits during their own lifetimes. The sector received an early boost when HIV patients sold policies early to unlock cash to pay for treatment.

Newton, a UK-based subsidiary of BNY Mellon Asset Management, has added investment manager Terry Coles to its global equities team.
Coles joins Newton from F&C Asset Management’s global equities team, of which he was a director overseeing a range of mandates worth some £800 million (around $1. 25 billion) in assets under management.

Kedge Capital, the Jersey-based multi-family office which serves the multi-billionaire Bertarelli family, has appointed Jonathan Little to build a global asset management business as chief executive.
Little was latterly acting co-head of BNY Mellon Asset Management, his departure from the New York-listed firm being reported by this publication yesterday.
Little, who joined BNY Mellon in 2000, has been the director of a number of asset management companies, including Newton Investment Management, Pareto Investment Management, Walter Scott and Partners, EACM Advisors, Al.

BNY Mellon has appointed Mitchell Harris as the sole interim head for its asset management business following the resignation of Jon Little, who is leaving the firm to accept another role within the industry.
Harris takes on the interim leadership role in addition to his position as chairman of the asset management business’ fixed income, cash and currency group, overseeing over $500 billion in assets under management, including Pareto Partners, Standish Mellon Asset Management, Alcentra and BNY Mellon Cash Investment Strategies.

- July 15, 2010 - BNY Mellon's Wealth Arm Eyes More US, Foreign Expansion, Takeovers - CEO
Bank of New York Mellon Wealth Management wants to expand more US and overseas markets through a stream of new hires and takeovers, the firm’s chief executive Lawrence Hughes was quoted as telling Reuters yesterday.
Hughes, who took the post in May, was quoted saying that BNY Mellon Wealth will continue to add financial advisors and boost its ranks of new business-generating staff by 15 per cent this year.
"We're very interested in expanding organically and through acquisition," Hughes said in the interview.
